What’s in a Name? The Story Behind GIRISI Golf Aids

Welcome to GIRISI Golf Aids—a name with a fun and meaningful backstory that ties together golf, friendship, and a shared passion for the game.

Back in 1991, a young golfer named John Daly burst onto the PGA Tour with a style all his own. Known for his natural talent and fearless approach, Daly quickly made a name for himself—not just for his powerful drives, but for living life with unfiltered enthusiasm.

Early in his career, Daly coined the now-famous phrase: “Grip It and Rip It”—a nod to his explosive swing and bold playing style. Over time, others playfully added a third element: “Sip It,” capturing the spirit of relaxing and enjoying the moment. The full phrase—“Grip It, Rip It, and Sip It”—stuck, and it perfectly embodied a more laid-back, joy-filled approach to golf.

Around the same time, a few friends and I started a yearly golf tradition. Each spring, we’d gather at various golf resorts for a few days of golf, good drinks, and great company. What began as a modest three-night, six-round event has grown into four nights, eight rounds—and countless stories and laughs. In 2025, we’ll celebrate our 35th consecutive year of this tradition.

When it came time to name our event, the choice was clear. “Grip It, Rip It, Sip It” captured everything we loved about those getaways. We turned the phrase into an acronym—GIRISI—and it became a cherished part of our golfing identity.

Now, as a tribute to those unforgettable memories and the incredible group behind them, I’ve brought that same spirit to this website: GIRISI Golf Aids. It’s about more than just playing better—it’s about making the game more enjoyable, more accessible, and more rewarding.
